The small town of Pefkos is situated on the east coast of the Greek island of Rhodes. Named after the pine trees which stretch right down to the bay’s golden, sandy beaches, this former fishing village (also known as ‘Pefki’) is a charming destination with an authentic Greek feel.
Pefkos has four beaches to choose from, all with Blue Flag status, soft golden sands and clear waters that are popular with snorkelers. The main beach, Lee Beach, is the busiest, with a great selection of water sports and beach bars on offer. Kavos Beach lies at the eastern end of the town and is a smaller, quieter beach, perfect for peaceful sunbathing. St. Thomas Beach is located next to the colourful harbour, and is a lovely place to watch the boats sailing by, while Plakia Beach is located to the west of the town and is a secluded, slightly stonier spot with fantastic cliff-top views. The waters around Pefkos are very calm, thanks to its sheltered position, making it a great family beach holiday destination.
The town of Pefkos has a fantastic range of pretty candle-lit restaurants and tavernas to enjoy, serving food from traditional Greek to Thai. Fresh seafood is particularly popular, with many tavernas serving delicious fish dishes, accompanied with some local ouzo or raki of course. While there are some livelier bars, Pefkos is generally a relaxed place, with visitors heading to Lindos, Faliraki or Rhodes Town for all night partying. Pefkos makes a great base for exploring the rest of this historic and beautiful island.

Great for

Beaches: Pefkos is a stunning beach holiday destination, with a choice of attractive beaches, water sports and beachside amenities. The crystal-clear waters are a snorkelling haven, and the calm waters are safe and clean for children and inexperienced swimmers.
Families: The laid-back atmosphere in Pefkos makes it popular with families who would rather avoid the larger resorts and their raucous nightlife. Friendly family restaurants, safe swimming, and plenty of nearby attractions make Pefkos a great place to stay for families with children.
Relaxation: The relaxed pace of life, sunny climate, and beautiful beaches attract visitors who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Nightlife involves enjoying a cocktail while the sun goes down and a leisurely dinner in a quiet taverna – perfect for unwinding.

Rhodes Old Town

A visit to Rhodes Old Town is well worth the hour’s drive north. This medieval walled city lies within, but completely separate from, the modern New Town. Surrounded by high walls and a moat, this historic area is a maze of narrow alleys its almost impossible to navigate. Enjoy getting lost among the picturesque streets and stumbling across amazing architecture at every turn, from mosques, to palaces, to Ottoman baths. Few cities have such a strong sense of living history and the area is well deserving of its UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Acropolis of Lindos

The beautiful city of Lindos is just 10 minutes’ drive from Pefkos. One of the highlights of a visit here, aside from the gorgeous sandy beach and the dozens of pretty rooftop restaurants, is the ancient hilltop acropolis. Parts of the acropolis are thought to date back as far as 300 BC, making this a fascinating historical site. Built on top of a 116-metre high rock, the views down over the city and the sea are so spectacular the long, steep climb to the top is forgiven.

The Ancient City of Kamiros

Head inland for around 50 minutes and you’ll reach the ancient city of Kamiros. One of Rhodes first three ancient cities, the site is around 3,000 years old. This ancient city has been ravaged by earthquakes over the years but ruins of buildings still remain, and a temple built to honour the goddess Athena has been recently excavated. Wander the ruins, learn about the excavation process, and soak up the weight of this city’s long history.

Mandraki Harbour

The ancient Mandraki Harbour is one of Rhodes Town’s most popular sights. Dating back to 400 BC, the harbor was once used as a busy trading port. Now the marina is a relaxing and vibrant place, lined with waterfront bars and restaurants and filled with pleasure boats and sailing ships. Many boat trips leave from the harbour, heading out to sea to explore the stunning coastline and nearby islands. The entrance of the harbor has two unusual stone deer columns, which are revered as important symbols of the island.
