From the Caspian Sea to the eastern borders with China and Russia, Kazakhstan is a blossoming country comprised of picturesque mountain landscapes, rustic villages and futuristic cities. Kazakhstan is a wonderful holiday destination for travellers who want to expand their horizons and delve into fascinating new cultures. Kazakhstan is as interesting as its name indicates, all you need to do is find out why. Between the absorbing all the sights, smells and sounds of the modern cities and exploring the natural wonders, you will have your fill of Kazakhstan, and that’s good thing!
Almaty is the largest city and boasts a thriving metropolis with ritzy shopping centres, European-like boulevards and a plethora of stylish restaurants, cafes and nightclubs for the hedonist in you. Be sure to visit the Central State Museum, the best in the city, which takes you through the timeline of Kazakh history. The Ascension Cathedral is also worthwhile, the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church is the second tallest wooden building in the world. The capital city of Astana also has some interesting architectural specimens to visit. The bulbous Bayterek is a soaring monument and observation tower that is emblematic of the city. There is also the massive Khan Shatyr Entertainment Centre, a sweeping otherworldly tent and leager than ten football fields. This popular attraction has shopping districts and entertainment venues complete with cobbled streets and squares, as well as an indoor beach resort, boating river and mini golf course. While you enjoy your stay in the cities, be sure not to skip a visit to one of the dozens of spas and bathhouses where relaxation is the only item on the menu.
About a twenty hour journey by bus from Almaty is the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahem Yasawi, which many visitors say is the most beautiful man-made structure in all of Kazakhstan. Definitely worth the trip!
Leave the cities behind and you have both the mountains and sea beckoning. The trails along the Zaili Alatau Mountains, the Tian Shan Mountains with its sparkling lakes, and the rose-coloured Charyn Canyon, will lead you to awe-inspiring panoramic views of the striking Kazakh landscape. The peaceful beaches that stretch along the Caspian Sea are popular during the summer months when both locals and visitors flee the cities to enjoy the sun-drenched sand and the numerous water sports available.
