Located in the Garraf area in Catalonia, Sitges is a very nice Mediterranean coastal town. It has a year round warm climate and 4 kilometres of wonderful beaches that offer a wide range of different activities throughout the year. Until the 1960s the town’s economy was based on wine production, but today tourism is the most important industry.

In the 1950s, a Neanderthal jaw was found close to Sitges, in the Cova del Gegant which revealed that people have inhabited the area for 53,200 years. Today, the town can count several great artists and illustrious citizens, including the wine merchant Facundo Bacardi, that have called the town home.

One of the most popular places of Sitges is the Garraf Natural Park where visitors can admire caves, sinkholes caused by water erosion, and local fauna and flora. There are also numerous events taking place in Sitges every year, including the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, the Barcelona – Sitges Vintage Car Rally, the Festa Major, and the Harvest Festival. Sitges also hosts some of the major sporting events of the region: the annual Triathlon in May, the Beach Rugby 7 in June, and the Mitja Sitges (Half Marathon) in January.

The areas surrounding Sitges are also very beautiful and interesting. The town is situated only 35 kilometres from Barcelona where you can admire the world famous Basilica Sagrada Familia, the La Rambla, and the Gothic Quarter. The town of Tarragona in the other direction is worth a visit as well.
