There are hotel rooms and then there are hotel rooms like these. These seven rooms completely up the ante for providing guests with unique and memorable experiences. From pushing the limits of science and technology to redefining what is art, hoteliers are finding new and radical ways to seduce guests to their one-of-kind hotel rooms. And in our books, that’s just what the holiday doctor ordered.<blockquote>Panic Room at the Au Vieux Panier Hotel – Marseille, France</blockquote>The Au Vieux Hotel is one of a kind, literally. That’s because the hotel, comprised of only five rooms, allows artists to unleash their creativity on the walls, floors, bedding and furniture to create a three-dimensional work of art that you can sleep in. The room’s designs change every year with new artists, graphic designers and painters leaving their mark on the hotel’s canvas. The most eye-catching of the rooms this year has to be the graffiti inspired Tilt’s Panic Room. The colourful chaos on half the room is a stark contrast to the pristine white on the other side. Buried 155 metres underground, the Mine Suite holds the titles of the ‘Deepest Hotel Room in the World.’ Guests are treated to a guided tour of the mine and then lead to their cavernous room. The dark and cozy room is equipped with a large bed, a small table and chairs and plenty of candles. The guide leaves you with a basket brimming with goodies, including wine, cheese and chocolates and only returns in the morning with your breakfast. The effect is eerily romantic and makes for a night you won’t soon forget. With that kind of buzz surrounding the hotel we had to see what the fuss was about, and were blown away by what we saw. Off the shores of the private Poseidon Mystery Island in Fiji lies the 25-suite hotel- 12 metres underwater. The luxury hotel offers guests all the lavish amenities that one would expect from a 5-Star in an otherworldly, underwater environment that Jacques Cousteau would be proud of. The deluxe suites have a fishbowl feel to them thanks to the transparent acrylic dome. This gives guests fabulous views of the surrounding coral reefs and colourful marine life. The hotel is also equipped with a bar, restaurant, gym, a chapel and offers guest plenty of aquatic activities including a submarine excursion. Out of all the options, we cannot resist the idea of sleeping in a glass igloo that gives you a front row seat to the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as the Northern Lights. However, these ice-inspired rooms aren’t your typical igloos, their interiors are artistically carved, giving each one a unique and enchanting feel. Glowing coloured lights and roaring fireplaces add to the magical effect of the ice rooms. The Hotel de Glace is conveniently located right outside of Quebec city centre making this winter wonderland an easy to reach getaway.
