If you’re looking to do something extra special for your loved one this year (whether for the 14th of February, for your anniversary, or simply as a surprise spoil), we’ve taken a look at the best European cities for romantic getaways on a budget.</p><p><iframe allow='accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture' allowfullscreen='' frameborder='0' height='315' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/cNKRf_4iFCI' width='560'></iframe></p><p>A romantic weekend away for two doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Our latest report uncovers the cheapest and most expensive average costs for accommodation, meals and drinks for a European trip for two.</p><p>The full rankings of Europe’s top destinations are listed in the infographic below.</p><hr /><h2>Getaway to Antalya this Valentines Day</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_2.PNG' style='width: 1920px; height: 1080px;' /></p><p>Antalya has replaced Sofia as the cheapest destination for a romantic getaway in 2020, costing just £50.23 for a room and meal with drinks for two. Meanwhile, Zurich has replaced Amsterdam as Europe’s most expensive city, setting couples back an average of £317.90 per night.</p><p>There’s plenty for couples to do in Antalya, whether it’s enjoying sundowners on the beach at your resort, exploring market bazaars, enjoying a boat trip on the bay at the Old City Marina, strolling through the Karaalioglu Park, or visiting the lovely Lower Duden Waterfalls.</p><hr /><h2>Europe’s top 10 cheapest destinations</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_10.PNG' style='width: 1920px; height: 1080px;' /></p><p>If you’re looking for a budget break, your best bet is to plan a trip to Eastern Europe, where you’ll find some of the most affordable cities in Europe, including Kiev (at £74.00 per night), Istanbul (at £77.71 per night), Minsk (at £82.93 per night), Sofia (at £93.01 per night), Riga (at £105.57 per night), Vilnius (at £106.64 per night), and Paphos (at £108.16 per night).</p><p>If you’d prefer to head to Spain for the weekend, Santa Cruz (at £100.36 per night) and Alicante (at £100.87 per night) offer the best bargains to travellers.</p><hr /><h2>Ranking the rest of Europe</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_50.PNG' style='width: 1920px; height: 1080px;' /></p><p>Paris and Venice are considered by many to be among the most romantic cities in the world, but they are also among the most expensive, totalling £240.61 (up from £187.88 in 2019) and £162.00 (down from £224.82 in 2019) a night respectively.</p><p>London has ranked as the third most expensive city in Europe, costing couples an average of £259.44 per night (up from £220.34 in 2019). London is also home to the third most expensive hotel rooms in Europe, costing an average of £181.00 per night, making a staycation potentially as a pricey as a night away to one of the cheaper cities on the list.</p><hr /><h2>2020’s cheapest hotel rooms in Europe</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_Hotels.PNG' style='width: 1919px; height: 1079px;' /></p><p>Besides being the cheapest destination overall, Antalya also offers the cheapest hotel rooms in Europe at an average of just £21.00 per night for two people. An excellent hotel for couples is the Crowne Plaza, which is located right on the beach and boasts renowned Turkish hospitality. If you’re looking to spoil your loved one, the hotel offers a fully equipped spa complete with its own Turkish bath.</p><p>Other European destinations that offer cheap hotels include Kiev (at £34.00 per night), Istanbul (at £36.00 per night), Minsk (at £47.00 per night), Frankfurt (at £48.00 per night), Sofia (at £52.00 per night), Alicante (at £58.00 per night), Vilnius (at £58.00 per night), Santa Cruz (at £61.00 per night), and Riga (at £61.00 per night).</p><hr /><h2>The cheapest meals in Europe for 2020</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_Restaurants.PNG' style='width: 1920px; height: 1080px;' /></p><p>The cheapest meals in Europe are also available in Antalya, costing just £21.00 for appetisers, entrees, and desserts for two. A lovely, romantic restaurant in the city is Mermerli restaurant, based a stone structure overhanging a cliff where diners can enjoy a rich selection of fish and meat dishes while listening to the gentle swish of the waves while seated beneath picturesque stone arches.</p><p>Other European destinations that offer cheap meals for two include Kraków (at £22.00 per couple), Minsk (at £28.00 per couple), Malaga (at £28.00 per couple), Istanbul (at £30.00 per couple), Santa Cruz (at £31.00 per couple), Budapest (at £31.00 per couple), Prague (at £31.00 per couple), Bucharest (at £31.00 per couple), and Kiev (at £33.00 per couple).</p><hr /><h2>Enjoying a budget beer or bargain bottle of wine</h2><p><img alt='' src='https://www.hoppa.com/resource/blog/uploads/2020/02/Budget_Romantic_European_Getaways_Infographic_2020_-_Top_Drinks.PNG' style='width: 1920px; height: 1080px;' /></p><p>No Valentine’s Day meal would be complete without at least a bottle of wine or perhaps a beer to go with it, and unsurprisingly the cheapest European beer can be found in Prague (at an average of £1.18 per pint), while the cheapest wines are available in Budapest (at an average of £3.98 for a good bottle of store-bought wine).</p><p>Interestingly, Nice in France made it onto our list in sixth place for bargain bottles of wine, proving that fine French wine doesn’t necessarily need to cost a fortune.
