La Clusaz

The picturesque, traditional village of La Clusaz is one of the Haute SavoieΆΆs best-kept secrets. This lively and friendly ski village has lost none of its deeply rooted French charm. Though not offering a huge ski area, there is a wonderful variety of skiing and boarding to suit everyone.

La Clusaz lies in an open sunny valley beneath the jagged peaks of the Aravis mountain range. 132km of groomed trails stretch out over five inter-connected ski areas, each with its own unique character. Woodland trails give way to open bowls and much of the off-piste can be reached from the lift stations, involving very little climbing. The nature of the terrain, much of it meadow-land and grazing during the summer months, ensures that even with a light snow covering the ski area can be fully accessed. With around 60 restaurants, La Cusaz has plenty of good dining options. For excellent food and wine try La Scierie in the village centre or a little further afield in Les Confins youΆΆll find Le Chalet du Lac, the oldest farm in La Clusaz, serving regional home cooking in a delightful setting well worth the trip.

La Clusaz is a fairly chilled place in the evening, not a resort renowned for its après-ski. On the mountain the Relais de lΆΆAiguille is a good choice for a drink at the end of skiing as are many of the bars on the home trail at Cret de Merle, particularly late in the season when the weather is warm.
