Salzburg City Centre

Salzburg, the fourth largest city in Austria, is the capital of the federal state of Salzburg. Salzburgs Old Town is one of the best preserved city centres in the German-speaking world. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. A “music” city, this is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Sound of Music was partly filmed here.

With three universities Salzburg is also a student city. Salzburg is on the banks of the Salzach river and on the northern boundary of the Alps. The Alps on one side contrast beatifully with the rolling plains to the north. The Altstadt (old town) is adorned with its baroque towers and churches and the massive Festung Hohensalzburg.
