Montalcino

Montalcino is a hilltown and comune in Tuscany, Italy. It is famous for its Brunello di Montalcino wine. Montalcino’s ancient name was Monte Ilcinus after the leccio “holm oak”. The Oaks of Montalcino cover, sharing their territory with the Olive tree, the Chestnut tree and Montalcino’s most famous plant the Brunello grapevine, also known as Sangiovese Grosso.

Since the beginning of time, wild birds have made annual migrations through the region of Tuscany. Held annually on the second Sunday in August, The Tournament for the Opening of the Hunting Season is a celebration of the opening of the traditional Montalcino season for fowl.
