Santorcaz

Santorcaz is a quiet town located in Madrid, Spain. It’s a peaceful place with plenty of walking and cycling possibilities, and all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay in the area, including a pharmacy, shops and great public transport. It’s also home to the 14th Century Torremocha Castle, once the holiday home of the bishops of Toledo, which is in ruins now but still very much worth a look. Also of interest is the old church of San Torcuato.

Santorcaz is just 15 km away from the World Heritage site of Alcalá de Henares, and indeed the town makes a great central hub from which to explore the rest of Madrid. The capital city itself is less than an hour’s drive away and on returning to Santorcaz, there are restaurants and bars which you can relax in as the sun goes down. It’s a great way to get a taste of Spain without ever having to do battle with crowds of tourists and sightseers.
