Amsterdam Transfers, Taxis & Shuttles
Amsterdam is a fascinating city full of culture, history and buzz. Located in the North West of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is within easy reach of other interesting cities such as Leiden, The Hague or Utrecht. Holland’s weather is generally mild the year round, but a lovely time to be in Amsterdam is the summer months, when there’s ample opportunity to enjoy a cold local beer at one of the many outdoor cafés.
Amsterdam is known for its bicycles, and bikes can be hired as an easy and authentic way to get around the city. Locals of all ages do everything and go everywhere on bikes, and the roads prioritise them throughout. Amsterdam is known as the Venice of the North for its many canals, around which the city is arranged. Walking along the historic canals is Amsterdam’s greatest attraction, and buildings are illuminated at night to make moonlight canal trips extra special.
For museum lovers, Amsterdam offers a wealth of attractions, from the most famous: Anne Frank house, to smaller intriguing museums dotted throughout the city. The main museums, including the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum, are all contained within easy reach of each other in the Museumplein. Gorgeous and historical architecture is everywhere, the most notable being the Oude Kerk; a beautiful 800-year-old church with an octagonal bell tower, which will give you fantastic views of old Amsterdam. If you fancy moseying around shops and stalls, there are many outdoor markets, the most famous being the Albert Cuyp market, which attracts many visitors and locals. Or you can take a walk around the Jordaan district, famous for its small art studios and independent shops. There are many parks and green spaces, the largest being the Vondelpark right in the centre of the city. When you’re hungry, Amsterdam has excellent street food to keep you going, including the popular raw herring, or tasty poffertjes – little sweet puffy pancakes to be eaten on the spot.
Amsterdam is not all history and high culture but also has a busy nightlife and young population; the Rembrandtplein or Jordaan districts contain many bars and clubs with music for any taste. Or if a quiet drink is more your thing, cafés and bars line the canals and a perfect end to an Amsterdam day is to take a borel – an early evening drink - with a plate of chunky Dutch chips and onion at these canal-side bars.
