The Most Magical Sights In Malaysia

Malaysia is one of the most unique countries to visit in the East. It’s not quite as cosmopolitan and futuristic as Singapore, but it doesn't have as much of its natural flora and fauna left untouched as Thailand. Malaysia falls somewhere between the two, where rainforests and orchid gardens have married with freeways and high-rise buildings to create the impression that as the city grows, there is still so much respect for the nature that remains, peeking through the concrete jungle.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

Forming part of the Kuala Lumpur City Lake botanical gardens, is an undercover aviary that spans roughly 21 acres, which up to 3000 birds call home. Although there are many attractions surrounding the Bird Park, and while you may be tempted to visit as many as possible, it’s best to save as many hours as you can from your day to walk the sheer expanse of the park. There are fresh coconuts to drink and fruit to enjoy at the many kiosks throughout the park. Enjoy your refreshments with many of the cheeky and very tame birds that are happy to keep you company. And for those looking for more education about the park and its inhabitants, there are live shows throughout the day.

Petronas Towers

Known locally as the Twin Towers, the Petronas Towers boasted the title of the tallest building in the world until 2004, but still hold the title of the tallest twin towers in the world. The towers are visible from most vantage points across the city, and our favourite viewing spot? The Sky Bar is on the top floor of the neighbouring building. It’s quite popular for tourists to stop for drinks and dessert, with the bonus of one of the best Petronas Towers selfies. If shopping is something you enjoy, the mall on the lower levels of the towers house some of Kuala Lumpur's most luxury retail stores.

Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park

Along the Selangor River, there is a bioluminescent dance as old as time. The Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park is home to thousands of Kuala Selangor Fireflies, who come out at dusk to create a display that puts fairytales to shame. We suggest booking a romantic overnight stay nearby and let nature set the mood in one of the most idyllic ways possible.

Batu Caves

The Batu Lime caves are the perfect example of how Malaysia has been striving to preserve their natural heritage. Surrounded by concrete paving and an ever-expanding city, the Batu Caves stand proudly above the skyline. 272 Rainbow painted steps lead both tourists and Hindu pilgrims slowly up to the cave entrance, once inside the splendour gives way to tranquil shrines painted in equally beautiful colours, worshipers are encouraged to visit the shrines, while tourists can take in the ethereal beauty illuminated by the sunlight that creeps in from the cave canopy. Make a day of the trip and take your time to really savour the climb as well as the monuments surrounding the cave on your return.
