Short beach breaks are great on paper, but they can lose their appeal quickly once you factor in long airport transfers to your destination. Confusing transport, pricey hotels, and unpredictable weather can all eat into valuable time by the coast.

That friction is becoming harder to ignore, particularly as more travellers look to jet off on a 'nanovacation', maximising time away without extending the length or cost of their trip.

To find out where you can be on the beach a matter of minutes after touching down, we’ve analysed some of Europe’s most popular coastal destinations, ranking them based on transfer times from the nearest airport – where pre-booked airport transfers can make journeys quicker and more predictable – alongside factors such as hotel costs, weather conditions, and online popularity.

The easiest European beaches for travellers to visit

The easiest beaches to visit in Europe combine the speed of the transfer from the airport, affordability, beach popularity and quality, and the weather you can usually expect when visiting.

Based on these ranking factors, these European beaches stand out as the easiest to get to for travellers:

1. Praia de Faro, Faro – 9.79/10

Praia de Faro is a long, sandy barrier-island beach just outside Faro in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, known for its laid-back atmosphere and its unique position between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria Formosa lagoon.

Praia de Faro is only 5 minutes away from Faro International Airport, meaning that summer travellers can enjoy the sun-kissed sand of this beach faster than from any other airport in our study.

Staying near Praia de Faro is especially affordable; a three-star hotel averages £59, one of the lowest amounts in the study, and almost £30 less than the average. In Faro, you are unlikely to get rained on in the summer months, as the average monthly rainfall is just 2mm – perfect for long days soaking up the sun on seemingly endless golden sands.

2. Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa – 9.43/10

If you're a fan of clear blue skies and long, hot days, Nissi Beach is for you. On average, the area sees 12.4 hours of sunshine each day, temperatures hovering around 28 °C, and not a drop of rain! For anyone looking to top up their tan by day and hop between bars by night, Nissi is hard to beat.

Located on the south-east coast of Cyprus, in Ayia Napa, a popular party destination, Nissi Beach is a modest-sized white-sand bay. It is best known for its clear turquoise shallows and the tiny offshore island that visitors can reach by wading through the water.

3. Praia da Rocha, Portimão – 9.32/10

Another Portuguese beach in the Algarve region ranks third. Praia da Rocha unfolds as a broad sweep of golden sand backed by striking red-tinged limestone cliffs, creating one of southern Portugal’s most dramatic seaside landscapes.

It is one of the most popular beaches on the list, as over 1.3 million people searched for it on Google in 2025. It is close to the major city of Portimão and its dramatic cliff-backed scenery, making it one of the Algarve’s most recognisable, postcard-perfect beaches.4

Hotels by the beach are very affordable for travellers, at just under £60 for a three-star hotel, making it one of the cheapest places on the list. There is also far less rain here than at most beaches; in summer, the average monthly rainfall is only 4mm.

The best performing beaches in every category

Europe’s most loved beaches, according to reviews

To discover the highest-rated beaches, the average Google review score was recorded, and five beaches ranked joint first with a score of 4.7, slightly higher than the average of 4.4.

There are two Spanish beaches amongst the top five, Platja de Muro in Mallorca and Playa de Poniente in Benidorm. The others across Europe are: Praia de Falésia in the Algarve, Myrtos Beach in Greece, and Plage de la Promenade des Anglais near Nice.

Nissi Beach has the best summer weather

The weather factors used in the ranking are:

  • Average summer temperatures
  • Average daily sunshine hours
  • Average monthly rainfall

Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa tops two of the three weather categories. Its average temperature of 28℃ is the highest by over a degree, and there is no rain (0mm) throughout the summer months, whereas the average is 16.8 mm.

Vouliagmeni Beach in Athens ranks second for average temperatures at 26.7℃, and Faliraki Beach and St Paul’s Bay have the joint least average rainfall (0mm). However, they record 1mm of rainfall in June, whereas Nissi Beach records 0mm in each summer month.

Because most of these beaches are at similar latitudes in southern Europe, there is little difference in sunshine hours. Croatian beaches receive slightly more daily sunshine, with two of the top three beaches located there. Kolovare Beach in Zadar has the most sunshine of all the Croatian beaches, just under 13 hours, almost an hour more than the average of 12.

Faliraki Beach in Rhodes is the most affordable

A major factor in the ease of visiting a beach is its affordability, with hotel prices a major factor. Across all the beaches in the study, the average cost of a three-star hotel is £87, ranging from £36 to £196.

The beach with the £36 hotels is Faliraki Beach in Rhodes, a bay with bright blue waters just 23 minutes from the airport. Two beaches in Split, Croatia’s second city, rank second: Jašjuni Beach and Bačvice Beach are both serviced by £56 hotels.

Praia de Faro has the fastest airport-to-beach transfer time

Reach the beach in just five minutes. Praia de Faro is just five minutes away from the airport, which is seven times faster than the average of 35 minutes.

Playa de Palma in Mallorca ranks second, with a transit time of just seven minutes between the beach and Palma de Mallorca Airport. In third place, with a ten-minute transfer time, is Bossa Beach in Ibiza.

Methodology

hoppa is a global airport transfer aggregator helping travellers reach destinations across Europe and beyond, including locations outside major cities. As interest in short trips that prioritise convenience is very popular, hoppa has created this report to highlight Europe’s easiest beaches to travel to.

After compiling a seed list of popular tourist beaches within 90 minutes of the nearest airport from major travel publications, tourism websites, and Tripadvisor, we used the following data to calculate the rankings.

1. Environmental quality – Environmental quality was measured using https://www.blueflag.global/site-map, an internationally recognised environmental award for beaches meeting strict standards for water quality, safety, environmental management and services.

2. Beach reputation – To measure visitor satisfaction, the average https://maps.google.com/ rating for each beach was recorded.

3. Climate – Summer climate conditions were evaluated using https://en.climate-data.org/ for the nearest available location.

Three variables were analysed for the months June to August:

  • Average daily temperature
  • Average daily sunshine hours
  • Average monthly rainfall

Each variable was normalised and combined with equal weighting to produce a single Climate score.

4. Hotel affordability – The average nightly cost of a three-star hotel in the nearest beach resort or city was recorded using https://www.booking.com/ destination pages.

5. Airport transfer time The travel time was measured using the estimated travel time when driving between the nearest international airport and the beach resort area using https://maps.google.com/. All transfer times were based on a journey departing at 2 pm on March 3rd, 2026, using the median of the estimates.

6. Online popularity The number of searches for the beach names was analysed using https://business.google.com/en-all/ad-tools/keyword-planner/. Search volumes represent total global searches between February 2025 and January 2026.
