Tunis Transfers, Taxis & Shuttles

Just like the winds on the Mediterranean coast, you can breeze into Tunisia’s capital city, Tunis, and wander around its streets for a real feel for the place. Tunis is a contemporary city that is small enough for you to explore in a few days and is so laid back, you may find it hard to leave.
On one hand, the balconies, patisseries and cafés that line the avenues give the illusion of provincial France, not North Africa. That said, you must embrace the charm of this slower paced reality and make your way down the palm-lined Habib Bourguiba, as it is the perfect place for people watching.
You will find the gateway to the old town at the free-standing gate of Port de France. Tunis’ Arab medina is the historic and symbolic centre and it is here that you will find all things quirky as you meander along its narrow streets. Continuing your walk down the winding streets to the Great Mosque, you will pass busy open-air souks and workshops full of delightful artisan gifts.
Nestled among huge white mansions, you will discover the Roman ruins of the once splendid Carthage. To get to the Carthage Museum, you will need to hop on the train at the Tunis Marine TGM station to the North east of the city and walk to the top of Byrsa Hill. Another ancient site to visit is Bardo’s Ottoman Palace; there you must take a look at the vibrant mosaics and Roman artefacts in the National Museum.
Away from the city, take in the sea air on the picturesque seafront and enjoy the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. After a day of city dwelling, you will also need to unwind at one of the many hammams in the medina. A rigorous yet cleansing scrub down, as well as a relaxing session in the steam room will leave you feeling completely refreshed.
When you get hungry in Tunis, you have a selection of outstanding North African eateries to choose from. For a unique dining experience, look out for Café Culturel El Ali, complete with library and rooftop terrace overlooking the Zaytouna Mosque. Hidden away in the middle of the city – it’s well worth the search, if only for the vielle marmites and citronnade.
