The train to Sauze d'Oulx does not reach Sauze d'Oulx. It stops at Oulx, down on the valley floor, and the resort sits up a run of hairpins above it. Standing on that platform with ski bags, hours after takeoff, is where the journey usually comes apart.

You can get a train to Oulx, which is the nearest station and not the same place. Oulx is on the valley floor and the resort is about 5 km and several hundred metres above it, so you finish by road whatever you do.

There is a railway, and it stops in the wrong place. The Turin to Modane line runs the length of the Susa valley. Its station at Oulx is the nearest one to the resort, on the valley floor about 5 km below the town. You finish by road whichever way you travel.
So the real question is a short one. Do you arrange that last leg in advance, or stand outside a station in ski boots arranging it on the spot?
Buses run up from Oulx in season. Hire cars are the other option, if you want winter tyres and a week of parking on a slope. Weigh them against each other here.
Sauze d'Oulx sits at about 1,500 m on a sunny shelf above the Susa valley. The skiing here runs through the trees for most of its vertical rather than across open bowls. The top lift reaches 2,507 m and the runs drop back into pine forest. On a bad day you keep your visibility where a high, treeless resort loses it.
The resort is part of the Via Lattea, the Milky Way. One lift pass covers around 400 km of linked piste. It runs west across Sestriere, San Sicario and Cesana Torinese, then over the French border to Montgenèvre. You can ski between them. They are still separate villages on separate roads. The resort hosted freestyle events at the 2006 Turin Olympics. It has spent longer than it would like living down a reputation for nightlife. Both are true and neither should decide your booking.
