Bardonecchia sits at 1,312 m on the valley floor, ringed by peaks that pass 3,000 m. The skiing splits into sectors reached from different points around the town. Colomion, Les Arnauds and Melezet go from one. Jafferau above the town goes from another. Your nearest sector depends on which hamlet you sleep in. Your address decides your mornings and your transfer together.

The town hosted the snowboarding events at the 2006 Turin Olympics. That halfpipe and boardercross history still shapes what gets built here. You get a town with a life outside the season, which most of this valley lacks. It was a customs and railway town long before it was a ski one.

It is not part of the Via Lattea. Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere and Cesana Torinese sit 25 to 55 km back east down the same motorway. They share a lift pass with each other, not with here. Put your actual destination on the booking, not the name of the ski area.
