Liberia although small, is the capital city of Quanacaste, Costa rica. It is an ideal base to Rincón de la Vieja National Park. a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within this relative undiscovered park is the active 1916m high volcano with the same name and is one of five in the Guanacaste mountain range. It is a nice 8km climb to the summit where you can look down on the volcano area.
Be careful. You stand on ash and a gust of wind can take you into the unrailed opening dropping you in the acid lake 200m down. Liberia is small and you can walk to what you want te see.
