Mostar is the biggest and most important city in Herzegovina. It is on the Neretva river and the name was derived from the old bridge across the river that was completed 15 July 1567. The city was the most heavily bombed of all cities in Bosnia and the bridge was also destroyed but also rebuilt and opened on 23 July 2004. More than $15mil was spent on restoration. UNESCO doesnΆt usually award a rebuilt with World Heritage site status but the bridge was awarded a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Međugorje Catholic pilgrimage site is worth a visit. Positelj is a historic village and also worth seeing. Information on the current transport situation is not available everywhere and as they are in a rebuilding fase the information may not be up to date.
