If you were asked to choose between a beautiful, idyllic forest and an inviting sandy beach, which would you prefer? There are hundreds who would advocate both options with steadfast commitment, but thankfully you can have the best of both worlds when visiting sun-drenched Latchi. Located on the Cyprus’ northwest coast, this Mediterranean resort is home to an historic Turkish-Cypriot port but also has fantastic beaches and a national park on its doorstep, making it a popular destination with holidaymakers from all over the world.

Essentially a quiet fishing village, Latchi is home to some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world and its easy-going vibe is something that will stick with you long after you’ve reluctantly left. Framed by forested hills, the mile-long swathe of sand and pebbles is the perfect place to kick back and relax because despite the exotic setting it still remains distinctly crowd-free. The water here is warm and shallow, perfect for any young children learning to swim, and there are plenty of sun-loungers and umbrellas for hire. Those who only accept pure unadulterated sand should head to Polis, about 3 kilometres away, where you won’t find a pesky pebble in sight.

With all that amazing coastline on offer, it’s unsurprising that the area is a hub for water sports. Latchi Watersports offers an impressive list of activities, from the general fun and frivolous ones such as banana boating and kayaking, to a five-star scuba diving centre and even the opportunity to charter your very own yacht. So if being a full-fledged water baby is your idea of holiday fun, Latchi has it all.

If all that wasn’t enough, let’s not forget Latchi’s second major attraction, the Akamas National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty with a plethora of sights to see and trails to explore. It boasts over 50 well-signposted paths that cover both gentle walks and longer hikes, taking you through a stunning landscape of carob and olive trees as well as fragrant pine and juniper forests. Two of the most popular trails are named for the Greek gods who both have a lot of history in this Cypriot town. The Aphrodite and Apollo routes offer some of the best walks in Europe and they even lead up to the mythological Aphrodite’s Bath, where you can rest your legs and take a well-deserved break in the stunning natural surroundings.
