What began as a religious day in observance of the death of St. Patrick, St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into a global celebration of Irish culture. Falling on 17th March, it is celebrated with parades, music, dancing, lots of green, and of course a whole lot of Guinness! While many see the day as an excuse to drink lots in a green wig whilst attempting to Irish dance, there’s more to it than that...

About St.Patrick

Thought to have been born in Britain before being captured by Irish pagans in his early teens and taken to Ireland, St. Patrick was put to work as a herdsman for six years. When he finally managed to escape, it is believed he fled back to his home in Britain where he became a Christian priest, before returning to Ireland in the mid-fifth century as a missionary. St. Patrick spent years establishing schools, churches and monasteries across the country and was later appointed a successor to St Palladius, the first bishop of Ireland.
