Huelva

Close to the southern Portuguese border is the city of Huelva. In perhaps a less touristic location than some of the other towns on the Costa del Sol, this town nevertheless relies on tourism for much of its survival. It is close to the Morena mountain range whilst being within easy reach of beaches, ideal for those wanting to simply relax. Huelva offers a great location from which to explore this part of Spain as well as those wanting to visit the beautiful, historic city of Seville.

The centre of Huelva has much of interest. There are many plazas providing a great spot to watch the world go by, including the Plaza de las Monjas which is lined with palm trees. A bustling port, the city has numerous seafood bars and restaurants to choose from, all serving delicious fresh produce from the sea – tuna and shellfish historically being this fishing town’s most important catches. Museo de Huelva will show you the town’s fascination with Christopher Columbus, who set sail from here with many of the town’s men to discover America and there are also five parks in Huelva, the largest being the 70 hectare Moret Park with an artificial lake, cycle tracks, picnicking and more on offer.
