San Javier

The province of Murcia is home to San Javier, a small town with just 32,641 local residents. Thanks to a hospitable climate and thriving tourist community, there is much to do in this corner of Spain. Naturally, there are wonderful beaches full of warm water and glistening golden sand. Have your sunscreen at the ready as the temperatures get hot during the summer months, and you can make the most of the water sports and boat tours on offer too, with something available for everyone.

Away from the beach, you’ll find San Francisco Javier Church, built on Plaza de Espana in the 17th Century and ideal for those looking to soak up the history and culture of the region. Changes were made to the façade in the 18th Century, but it remains a stunning example of baroque architecture. The style is continued inside the church itself as the altar was constructed by Antonio Carrion Valverde. There’s a cycling club too for those that’d like to stay active. Based in Los Alacazares, it meets regularly and is made up of locals and tourists.

You’ll find plenty of restaurants and bars here, ideal for those wanting to experience the delicious cuisine. There are many serving traditional Spanish cuisine, as well as international dishes, with something everyone will love. Be sure to visit 7 Tablas, Restaurante Asia and Restaurante Chino Big House - which is great for a spicy stir fry.
