Crete is well known as an island of beauty. Its long sandy beaches and crystal clear waters are picture perfect but head further inland and Crete’s most dramatic scenery unfolds in the snow capped mountains, rocky ravines, desert landscape and green oases.

In the small village of Omalos, the white houses typical of Greece cluster along the hillside. Omalos is around 40 kilometres from the city of Chania but will feel like it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of Crete’s bigger towns, perfect for getting to know the real traditional island, its people and its wildlife.

From Omalos you can hire a guide and hike around the lush green plateau, filled with all sorts of flora and fauna. The Samaria Gorge, part of Crete’s national park, is also nearby. A walk along the gorge will take in forests of Cyprus trees, the abandoned ruins of Samaria village and, if you’re lucky, some rare vultures. Follow the gorge all the way down to the beach where you can enjoy a cooling dip in the sea after your trek.

Thinking about your Omalos transfers? Then think hoppa. We can organise your journey from Chania Airport to Omalos, leaving you free to enjoy the sun and the scenery from the moment you arrive.
