Krabi

Located on the southern coast of the Andaman Sea, Krabi is one of Thailand’s premier tourist destinations. It offers much in the way of natural splendour in its beaches, mountains, hot springs and wildlife sanctuaries. Seeking sun, sand and a taste of Thailand, visitors flock to Krabi year-round but during peak season, December and January, the number of visitors can triple.

At the entrance of the city lies Khao Khanap Nam, the two mountains that are considered the symbol of Krabi. Ao Nang Bay has two very popular beaches. The first is Rai Leh, only accessible by boat, which has hidden caves and lagoons uncovered by low tide, stunning views and palm tree-lined beaches fit for postcards. The second is Tham Phra Nang, also accessible only by boat, with fine white sand, crystalline waters and activities such as snorkeling, diving, hiking and rock climbing.

Ao Nang is tourist central with a relaxing atmosphere and a nice selection of restaurants, bars, guesthouses and hotels. It is also the launching point for many boat tours that offer day trips to the surrounding islands such as the Mu Ka Poda Islands. Beyond Ao Nang is the mellower beach of Noppharat Thara that is part of the marine national park, which extends to the Phi Phi Islands. If you want to break away from the crowds completely then charter a long boat to one of the many smaller secluded beaches where you can explore the beautiful caves and mangrove forests only accessible by water.
