What Vallorcine travellers ask before they book

Geneva is your answer at almost every group size, so most of what follows is about the two sizes where it is not.

The basics

Which airport should I fly into for Vallorcine?

Geneva. You are 116 km out, about an hour and twenty minutes, from £526. Your next nearest option sits 44 km further away and none of them gets you there quicker.

How far is Vallorcine from Geneva Airport?

116 km, and you are moving for about an hour and twenty of it. Motorway runs as far as Le Fayet, then you are on the valley road up through Chamonix and Argentière to the col.

How much is a transfer?

From £526 in a private car with three seats. You are buying the vehicle and your skis ride in it, and your fare is fixed the moment you book.

Is Geneva always the cheapest?

At twelve of the thirteen vehicle sizes, yes. Grenoble undercuts it on the 8-seat minibus, and if you want a 36-seat coach, three other airports beat it.

Is there a shared shuttle from Geneva Airport?

No. You book the vehicle for your party alone. It leaves when you are in it and it takes you to your own hamlet rather than dropping you at a car park at the bottom.

Which part of Vallorcine am I staying in?

Check before you book. You are heading for a string of hamlets along about four kilometres of valley floor. Le Morzay, La Villaz, Le Sizeray and Le Buet are among them. Give your driver the hamlet.

How far is it beyond Chamonix?

About twenty minutes further up the valley. Book to Chamonix and finish the journey yourself and you have a plan that works in daylight and rarely works with your equipment.

Which vehicle fits my group?

How many people and how much luggage fit in each vehicle?

Vehicle categories include Sedan, Business Sedan, Minivan, Business Minivan, Minibus and Bus. Each has a strict insured maximum for passengers and luggage that drivers must adhere to. Default luggage allowance is one 24-inch suitcase per passenger. Bags larger than 24″ count as two pieces. Choose a category that fits both your party and your bags.

Will I get the exact car shown in the picture?

Vehicle images are for illustration only. You're booking a category, not a specific model, and we may upgrade you to a higher category at no extra charge if your selected one isn't available.

Can I add a child seat for my baby or toddler?

Yes. We offer infant carriers, baby seats and boosters depending on your supplier and route. Add the seat type you need during booking so it can be confirmed in advance.

How much does a child seat cost?

The first child seat in your booking is included free. Any additional seats may carry a fee from the supplier. The exact amount is shown in your booking quote before you pay, so there are no surprises.

I forgot to request a child seat: can I add it after booking?

Yes. Contact customer service as soon as possible to add it to your booking. Late requests are honoured subject to availability, so the sooner you ask, the better. Important: no refund or replacement applies if a driver arrives without a seat that wasn't requested in time.

Is my child seat guaranteed once I've added it to my booking?

If you've added the seat at the time of booking, it's confirmed with your transport supplier. Seats requested after the booking is placed are subject to availability. If a seat ends up unavailable on arrival because it wasn't requested in time, no refund applies.

Can I bring a pet or service animal?

Yes, at no extra charge. Notify us at booking so the right vehicle is allocated. Important: animals count toward the vehicle's passenger capacity, so a 5-seat vehicle with two pets has three human seats.

Do you have wheelchair-accessible options?

Yes. Note any accessibility need (wheelchair, mobility scooter, special assistance) in the booking comments. We work with specialised partners and make reasonable efforts to accommodate.

What if my flight is delayed?

Will my driver wait if my flight is late?

Yes. Your driver waits up to 60 minutes free on airport pickups. International flights add a 30-minute buffer on top, so the free waiting period starts after that buffer ends.

What if my flight is delayed by more than 2 hours?

A delay that long may mean your transfer has to be rescheduled, so call the number on your e-ticket as soon as you know. Customer service will coordinate a new pickup time with the driver. If your driver cannot pick you up as scheduled, your order is cancelled without charge.

What if my flight is cancelled entirely?

Your transfer is cancelled free of charge. Contact customer service immediately so we can update the booking.

What if my flight is diverted to a different airport?

Contact us immediately. We'll do our best to reschedule your pickup, though we can't guarantee a free transfer if the new airport is in a different region or significantly further from your destination.

Where will I meet my driver?

24 hours before pickup we send a final SMS or WhatsApp with the exact meeting point and your driver's contact details. Meet & greet at the arrival gate is available on request, subject to airport policy. If it is not possible at the gate, we'll assign an alternative meeting point.

What if I'm stuck inside the airport (luggage, immigration)?

Use the emergency number on your e-ticket to call the driver or local supplier and let them know you're still in the terminal. The driver will wait through their free period and, if reached in time, can sometimes extend.

What counts as a no-show?

Not appearing within the free waiting period and being unreachable for additional time. No-shows are charged in full and non-refundable.

Best price & current deals

Where can I find a discount code?

Active offers are applied automatically when you search. There's nothing to enter manually. To see what's currently running, check our discount codes page or our homepage banner.

Should I book early?

Yes. We recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance for the best vehicle selection. Bookings within 24 hours are subject to availability and may carry an expedited service fee. Booking early also locks in today's price.

Is there a low-deposit option?

On selected services and destinations, yes. Pay a deposit now and the balance before your travel date. If the balance isn't paid in time the booking auto-cancels and the deposit is forfeited. Note: low-deposit bookings can't be paid with hoppa Credits.

What is Refund Protect?

An optional add-on at checkout from our partner Refund Protect. If you (or anyone in your party) can't attend for a covered reason, you receive 100% of your booking back. Refund Protect's decision is final. See their full terms when adding the option.

Can I use hoppa Credits from a previous booking?

Yes. hoppa Credits apply automatically to your next booking when you log in with the same email. They expire 12 months after issue, can't be transferred between accounts, and can't be combined with low-deposit bookings.

Can I cancel and get a refund?

Yes, depending on timing and vehicle size. Up to 7 seats: free cancellation more than 24 hours before pickup; 100% charge within 24 hours. 8–14 seats: free outside 48 hours. 16+ seats: free outside 14 days, 50% within 14–7 days, 100% within 7 days. Approved refunds reach your original payment method in 5 to 7 business days.

Common problems on the way to Vallorcine, and how hoppa solves them

Most of these catch you out if you treat the village as a suburb of Chamonix. You are going somewhere separate, twenty minutes further on, in the last four kilometres of France.

Challenge Solution How do we solve it?
You book a transfer to Chamonix to save money Book to the village you are sleeping in. Chamonix leaves you twenty minutes short. Finish on the train with your ski bags and you walk at both ends, and the last service goes earlier than the last flight.
You give the driver the commune and not the hamlet Name the hamlet on the booking form. You are staying somewhere in four kilometres of scattered valley floor. Le Buet and Le Sizeray are a different stop from the village centre, and your driver goes where you tell him.
You are eight and you assume Geneva is cheapest Price Grenoble before you buy the flight. Grenoble's 8-seat minibus is £648 against Geneva's £790. Whether you want an extra hour each way for it is your call, and you should get to make it.
You are a party of thirty and you book Geneva anyway Price the Italian and Swiss coaches. Geneva's 36-seat coach is £4,422. Turin's is £2,338. Geneva saves you money at every size right up until the largest vehicle, and then it costs you the most.
Chambéry looks close enough on the map Price it, then look at what it actually offers. Chambéry puts you 161 km out, opens at £682 and offers you five vehicles with nothing above eight seats. Geneva is 45 km nearer and cheaper.
You count heads and forget the ski bags Declare the bags and let them size the vehicle. Every vehicle gives you one bag per seat. Five of you with a board bag each have outgrown the £684 five-seat MPV, so take the 8-seat minibus at £790.
Your flight lands late and the plan falls apart The driver is watching the aircraft, not the clock. Put your flight number on the booking. Airport arrivals buy you up to 60 minutes of free waiting, plus a 30-minute buffer on international flights.

Why do Vallorcine travellers choose a private transfer with hoppa?

The last stretch is why you want a driver. From Geneva you are on motorway as far as Le Fayet, then a valley road that climbs through Chamonix and Argentière and over the Col des Montets before dropping you into the valley. In good weather you would barely notice it. In snow, the col is the part where you want somebody who has driven it before.

Your hoppa vehicle is booked for your party and nobody else's, and your fare is fixed when you pay rather than settled at the far end. Your driver meets you inside arrivals with a name board, and the flight number on your booking makes a delayed aircraft his problem rather than yours.

hoppa works with 70,000+ vetted local fleet providers across 182+ countries and 2,600+ airports and resorts, and has moved 40M+ travellers. What that gives you here is choice: thirteen vehicles from Geneva, from a car for three to a coach for thirty-six.

You cancel free up to 24 hours before travel on anything up to seven seats, and every vehicle carries winter tyres. French law requires them on this road between November and March.

With a standard ride app When you book with hoppa
Choosing the airport You compare seven gateways and lose an evening. You book Geneva. Nearest by 45 km and cheapest at almost every size, from £526.
Booking for eight You take Geneva's 8-seat minibus at £790 without looking. You notice Grenoble is £648, weigh the extra hour, and then decide.
Booking for thirty You book Geneva's 36-seat coach at £4,422. You price Turin at £2,338 and Zurich at £3,213 first.
Your address You type the commune name and hope. You give the hamlet: Le Buet, Le Morzay, La Villaz or Le Sizeray.
Stopping short at Chamonix You book to Chamonix and plan to sort the last bit out. You book to the door. The last twenty minutes is the part with the ski bags in it.
If the flight slips You lose the booking and start again at the rank. The flight number is on the job and the driver waits for the aircraft.
What you pay A meter, a surcharge for the skis, and a number you find out at the end. One fixed fare for the vehicle, paid online before you fly.

How long is the transfer from Geneva Airport to Vallorcine?

Allow about an hour and twenty minutes for your 116 km.

Two thirds of it passes quickly. Motorway carries you from Geneva to Le Fayet, and only then does it turn into a valley road, climbing through Chamonix and Argentière to the Col des Montets and down the far side. Your last twenty minutes is the slow part whatever the weather is doing.

Fly into anywhere else and you add at least an hour. Chambéry puts you at about 1 hr 40, Turin about 2 hr 10 through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, Grenoble about 2 hr 22, Lyon about 2 hr 30, Malpensa about 2 hr 40 and Zurich about 2 hr 50.

Geneva Airport (GVA) to Vallorcine ~1 hr 20 · 116 km £526–£4,422private car to 8-seat minibus Private car up to a 36-seat coach. Thirteen vehicles, much the shortest drive and the lowest floor. The recommendation
Chambéry Airport (CMF) to Vallorcine ~1 hr 40 · 161 km £682–£801private car to 8-seat minibus Two-seat car up to an 8-seat minibus. Five vehicles in total and nothing larger, on a short seasonal flight schedule
Turin Airport (TRN) to Vallorcine ~2 hr 10 · 189 km £688–£2,338private car to 8-seat minibus Private car up to a 36-seat coach, through the Mont Blanc Tunnel. The cheapest large coach into this valley from anywhere
Grenoble Airport (GNB) to Vallorcine ~2 hr 22 · 241 km £549–£648private car to 8-seat minibus Two-seat car up to an 8-seat minibus. The 8-seater undercuts Geneva's, which happens at no other size
Lyon Saint-Exupéry (LYS) to Vallorcine ~2 hr 30 · 238 km £820–£960private car to 8-seat minibus Two-seat car up to an 8-seat minibus. A long drive and no fare here beats Geneva. Useful only if the flights decide it
Milan Malpensa (MXP) to Vallorcine ~2 hr 40 · 251 km £742–£3,424private car to 8-seat minibus Private car up to a 36-seat coach. The second Italian option, with a big coach that beats Geneva's
Zurich Airport (ZRH) to Vallorcine ~2 hr 50 · 287 km £841–£3,213private car to 8-seat minibus Private car up to a 36-seat coach. The longest drive of the seven, and a large coach well below Geneva's

Please note: Annecy quotes this route too. You would be flying further than Geneva, paying more, and picking from a very thin schedule. Prices are indicative.

How much is a Vallorcine transfer?

Geneva opens at £526 and that gets you a private car with three seats. No other airport comes close at the bottom of the range. Add seats and you pay what you would expect, bigger vehicle to bigger number, all the way up to the coach.

Two rungs catch people out. The first sits low down. You pay £790 for Geneva's 8-seat minibus and £648 for Grenoble's. Grenoble is 125 km further away, so you buy that saving with about an hour more each way, tired people and wet kit in the back. For most parties the hour costs more than the money saves, and you should be the one weighing it.

The second sits at the top and it is much larger. Geneva's 36-seat coach costs you £4,422, nearly double Turin's. Fill a big coach as a club, a school party or a chalet group and you want to price Italy and Switzerland before you book the flights.

Between those two sizes Geneva simply wins. If your group is exactly eight, or over thirty, compare a second gateway. Below that, book Geneva and spend your time on something else. You pay per vehicle rather than per person, and your fare is fixed the moment you book. The £790 minibus from Geneva divides eight ways. Spend an hour and twenty minutes in it with a board bag each and you have most of the argument for one vehicle rather than three cars.

Check the full specification of each vehicle type (seats, bags, what fits) if your group sits near a boundary. Your first child seat is free and you request it at booking, alongside any other extras you need. You can bring pets and service animals, and they count toward the vehicle's passenger allowance.

Vehicle type Max passengers Luggage capacity Why choose this option? Estimated price (one-way)
Private car Up to 3 3 bags Couples and threes. Your standard booking from Geneva, and the least you can pay to get up here. From From £526
Private MPV Up to 5 5 bags Families of four or five with a bag each. Check it against the 8-seat minibus the moment you add board bags. From From £684
Executive car Up to 3 3 bags A higher-specification car for the same three seats, when your arrival matters. From From £857
Private minibus 8 seats One bag per seat The family and small-group size. Grenoble comes in lower on this one rung, so look at both before you decide. From From £790
Large minibus 10 to 16 One bag per seat Chalet parties. Geneva quotes you ten, twelve, fourteen and sixteen seats, and the steps between them are gentle. From From £1,043
Private coach 23 seats One bag per seat Clubs and school parties. At this size Geneva still costs you the least. From From £2,020
Large coach 36 seats One bag per seat The one vehicle where Geneva is beaten badly. Turin, Zurich and Malpensa all quote you this size for considerably less. From From £4,422

Read this before you book the flight:

Geneva is your answer, and both exceptions come with a group size attached. At eight seats you pay less from Grenoble and drive an hour further. At thirty-six seats Geneva charges you the most of the four airports that quote the vehicle.

Below eight, and between ten and twenty-three, none of that touches you and Geneva wins outright. That is where most groups sit, which is why your airport takes one line to settle and your address takes longer.

The address is what people get wrong here. You are going to a string of hamlets spread along the valley floor rather than a village with one centre, and your driver takes you to the name on the booking.

Which Vallorcine transfer is right for you?

Four questions. Your first answer is almost always Geneva, so the part worth your time is the vehicle.

How to book your Vallorcine transfer

Takes less than 200 seconds to complete.
Book Now
1

Enter your details

Arrival airport, dates, and the hamlet your accommodation is in rather than the commune. Le Buet and the village centre are a few kilometres and one decision apart.

2

Choose your vehicle

From Geneva the list runs from a private car to a 36-seat coach. If you are exactly eight, or more than twenty-three, it is worth pricing a second airport at this point.

3

Add what the driver needs to know

Flight number, ski and board bag count, and a child seat if you need one. The first child seat is free and the flight number is what keeps the driver waiting if you land late.

4

Pay once and arrive

The fare is fixed when you pay, by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro or PayPal. Your driver meets you in arrivals and nothing is owed at the far end.

How else can you get to Vallorcine?

The train is a genuine option here and you deserve a straight answer about it. The village has its own station on the Mont-Blanc Express. The line runs from Saint-Gervais through Chamonix and Argentière and on to Martigny in Switzerland, and it stops at Le Buet and at the village.

Your difficulty is getting to the line. From Geneva you take a bus or a train to Saint-Gervais first, then a slow mountain railway with a change in it. Travelling light you have a pleasant half-day. Carrying two ski bags and a boot bag each you have a long one, and your return leg is worse. You do that one tired and against a flight.

A hire car is your third route. The valley road is cleared and gritted all winter, and you pay for winter tyres at the desk since the law requires them. You then pay for the car on every day it sits outside your chalet, and parking in the hamlets is limited.

So it comes down to your equipment and your headcount. Compare the numbers side by side.

Transport option Indicative price to Vallorcine Journey time What's included / what to watch for
hoppa private car (Geneva to Vallorcine) From £526 per vehicle ~1 hr 20 · 116 km The straightforward booking. Three seats and three ski bags, terminal to hamlet, for £526.
hoppa private minibus (Geneva to Vallorcine) From £790 per vehicle ~1 hr 20 · 116 km The family row. Eight to sixteen seats with a bag each, which is usually what the equipment decides.
hoppa private minibus (Grenoble to Vallorcine) From £648 per vehicle ~2 hr 22 · 241 km The one cheaper eight-seater. Lower than Geneva's, and about an hour further from the door in each direction.
hoppa private coach (Turin to Vallorcine) From £2,338 per vehicle ~2 hr 10 · 189 km The large-group answer. Thirty-six seats through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, well below Geneva's coach of the same size.
Mont-Blanc Express from Saint-Gervais Lowest cost, per person Frequent, with a change and a slow mountain line at the end The village has its own station, which is rare. Every ski bag and boot bag is still yours to lift at each change.
Hire car from Geneva Airport Daily rate, plus fuel, winter tyres and parking ~1 hr 20, longer over the col after heavy snow The valley road is cleared properly all winter. You still pay for the car on every ski day and hamlet parking is limited.
Fly to Chambéry or Lyon instead From £682 and £820 ~1 hr 40 and ~2 hr 30 Chambéry is nearer but quotes only five vehicles. Lyon is further and beats Geneva at nothing.

What should you know about skiing Vallorcine in winter?

You are at the quiet end of the Chamonix valley and that is the point of it. The local ski area at Balme links over the hill to Le Tour and on into the Chamonix lift system, so you get the big valley on your pass without living in the middle of it. The skiing from the village itself is mostly easy, and nobody dresses that up.

What the village actually gives you is the other half of a ski week: cross-country on the valley floor, ski touring up towards the Bérard, and snowshoeing. Some of your party may ski hard and some may not ski at all. For a mixed group you are better based here than in the town twenty minutes down the road.

Nightlife is limited and nobody pretends otherwise. You have Argentière ten minutes away and Chamonix twenty, both on the train and both on the road.

One practical note. The Col des Montets sits between you and Argentière and it closes occasionally in heavy snow. When it does, the railway keeps running, which is a good reason to know where your station is whether or not you ever use it.

Your Vallorcine arrival guide, from the terminal to the first lift

You land somewhere that handles ski kit every day of the winter, and your first two thirds of road are quick. Motorway to Le Fayet, then the valley road up through Chamonix to the col.

Four things follow, in the order you meet them: getting your boards out of Geneva, picking your vehicle if your group is one of the two awkward sizes, what the col does in weather, and what you settle before you fly.

Ski-goers' arrival guide to Vallorcine

Everything from wheels down to first lift at the top of the valley.

Out of the terminal with boards

Geneva has a French sector and a Swiss one, and ski traffic is heavy all winter, so oversize baggage is a routine matter here rather than an event. Follow the oversize belt signs and allow a little longer than the carousel suggests on a Saturday.

Meeting your driver

Your driver waits in arrivals with a name board. The flight number on the booking is what tells him which aircraft to watch, and airport arrivals carry up to 60 minutes of free waiting plus a 30-minute buffer on international flights.

Then the road

Motorway runs to Le Fayet and the valley road takes over from there. About eighty minutes in total, and the great majority of the traffic turns off before you do.

Two group sizes need a second look

Below eight seats and between ten and twenty-three, Geneva costs you the least and there is nothing for you to decide. Exactly eight, or more than twenty-three, and you want to price a second gateway before you buy the flight.

Let the bags choose

Every vehicle on this route carries one bag per seat. Five adults with a board bag each have outgrown a five-seat MPV, so declare the equipment on the form and let it size the vehicle rather than counting heads.

Child seats and extras

The first child seat is free and has to be requested at booking. Pets and service animals are permitted and count toward the vehicle's passenger allowance.

Motorway, valley road, then one col

The route runs motorway from Geneva to Le Fayet, then the valley road through Chamonix and Chamonix's neighbouring villages to Argentière. From there it climbs to the Col des Montets and drops into this valley.

What the weather does

The motorway section is rarely the problem. The col is cleared as a priority, since the villages beyond it depend on it, but it does close occasionally in heavy snow, and when it does the Mont-Blanc Express keeps running. Winter tyres are a legal requirement on this road from November to March and every hoppa vehicle carries them.

What the drive is like

Straightforward for the first hour, then genuinely alpine for the last twenty minutes. A morning flight from the UK usually puts you in the village with the afternoon still ahead of you.

What to settle before you land

Settle the hamlet first. This commune is spread along about four kilometres of valley floor and Le Buet is not the village centre. The driver goes to the address on the booking, and in the dark the difference is a long walk with a ski bag.

Declare the equipment

Ski and board bags decide the vehicle, not passenger count. Say what you are bringing and the booking form sizes the vehicle around it. Guides to the best ski resorts in France, the top ski resorts in Europe and the best time to go skiing are worth a look while you are planning.

If something needs sorting

hoppa's team runs 24/7 on chat, email and phone, answering in an average of 11 seconds with a 99.7% answer rate, and the hoppa help centre has the written answer if you would rather not wait for a person. Complaints must reach customer service within 30 days of the date of service.

What to expect on the road to Vallorcine

You are staying in the last French village before the Swiss border, and your valley does not stop at the chalet door. Here is what waits at each end of your journey, from the city you fly into to the neighbours down the road.

Can I cancel or change my hoppa transfer?

Yes, though cancelling and changing work differently.

Cancel in time and you get a full refund. The window depends on the size of vehicle you booked:

  • 7-seater and below: cancel at least 24 hours before pick-up.
  • 8 to 14 seater: cancel at least 48 hours before pick-up.
  • 16 seater and above: cancel at least 14 days before pick-up. Cancel between 7 and 14 days out and you get half the booking value back.

Refunds reach your original payment method in 5 to 7 business days.

Changes are narrower. You can update passenger names, contact numbers, passenger count and luggage count, as long as your party still fits the vehicle you booked. Anything else means cancelling and booking again at the current price. That covers a new pick-up time, a different address or a different vehicle.

Extras are more flexible. Up to 24 hours before pick-up you can adjust things like child seat details or the name on the pick-up sign.

If your flight is cancelled, contact hoppa straight away. You get a full refund on a ride you no longer need. Booking inside 24 hours of travel is still possible, though an expedited booking fee applies.

Is hoppa transfer reliable?

Yes. hoppa has moved more than 40 million travellers through 2,600+ airports and resorts across 182+ countries, working with a network of 70,000+ vetted local fleet providers. hoppa is trusted by Mastercard and UnionPay as the mobility infrastructure layer for agentic travel.

On the Geneva Airport (GVA) to Vallorcine route that reliability is practical, not abstract. Your driver tracks your inbound flight, so a delay moves your pickup rather than losing it. You get up to 60 minutes of free waiting time, plus a 30 minute buffer on international arrivals. If a delay runs more than 2 hours past your scheduled arrival, call the number on your e-ticket and hoppa will coordinate a new pickup time. If something does go wrong, hoppa's support team answers in an average of 11 seconds, 24/7, across chat, email and phone, with a 99.7% call answer rate.

Every vehicle on this route is operated by a vetted local company that drives the mountain roads all winter. The price you agree at booking is the price you pay, with no surcharge for snow, traffic or a late landing.

Can an AI assistant book hoppa?

Yes. hoppa is built as a global mobility platform that powers agentic transactions, which means an AI assistant can search, price and book a transfer on your behalf.

That is why hoppa is trusted by Mastercard and UnionPay as the mobility infrastructure layer for agentic travel. Fixed, all-in pricing and a structured inventory of 70,000+ vetted local fleet providers give an AI agent something unambiguous to act on: one price, one vehicle, one confirmed pickup.

Ask your assistant for a Geneva Airport (GVA) to Vallorcine transfer and it can return live availability, vehicle sizes and a fixed price without you opening a booking form.

Book your Vallorcine ski transfer with hoppa

Vallorcine is a run of hamlets strung along one valley, and the commune name on its own will not get you to a door. Le Buet, Le Morzay and the village centre are all Vallorcine, and only one of them has your key waiting in it.

Give the hamlet when you book and a driver carries you over the Col des Montets to it. That is a better end to a travel day than the Mont Blanc Express with ski bags, a change and a last train that goes earlier than you expect.

Book the run out to Vallorcine with hoppa and finish the journey at your own front door.

Vallorcine ski transfer questions, answered

What is the nearest airport to Vallorcine?

Geneva, 116 km away and about an hour and twenty minutes. You pay the least from it too, £526, which is the ordinary case but not a given on every resort.

Which airport is cheapest for Vallorcine?

Geneva, at £526 for a private car. You pay less at Grenoble for eight seats, and less at three other airports for thirty-six. At every other size Geneva wins.

How long does the transfer take?

About an hour and twenty minutes from Geneva. You are on motorway as far as Le Fayet, then the valley road through Chamonix and over the col.

Can I book a transfer to a specific hamlet?

Yes, and you should. Le Buet, Le Morzay, La Villaz and Le Sizeray are separate addresses spread along the valley, and your driver goes where your booking says.

Is a transfer to Chamonix cheaper?

A little, since you stop twenty minutes shorter. You then cover those twenty minutes yourself with your equipment, which is the part people underestimate.

What happens if the Col des Montets is closed?

It is cleared as a priority and closures are short. The Mont-Blanc Express keeps running regardless, which is why you want to know where your station is.

Do the vehicles have winter tyres?

Yes. French law requires them on this road from November to March, and every hoppa vehicle that picks you up carries them.

How much luggage can I bring?

One piece per seat as standard, at 24 inches. Anything over 24 inches counts as two pieces, which is what your ski bag almost always does.

Can I cancel or change my transfer?

You cancel free up to 24 hours before travel on vehicles up to seven seats. Eight to fourteen seats need 48 hours from you, and sixteen seats and above need 14 days.

Are child seats available?

Your first one costs nothing if you ask for it on the form. Do it there rather than finding out in the Geneva arrivals hall that nobody was told.

Is there a surcharge for a night arrival?

You pay a nighttime surcharge on pickups between 22:00 and 08:00 local time. It is in the price before you pay, so you settle nothing with your driver on the night.

Can I get from Vallorcine to Verbier or other Swiss resorts?

Yes, as a point-to-point transfer over the col and down to Martigny. Your driver cannot pause at the border and pick you up again later, so book the outward and the return as two jobs.

How do I pay, and is the price fixed?

You pay online when you book, by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro or PayPal. Your fare is fixed at that moment and you owe your driver nothing at the far end.
